    12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
    2.0 CLE Hours

We have no desire to make attorneys into IT people – and frankly, they don’t want to go there anyway.  But that doesn’t mean that we can’t arm them to be able to protect and defend themselves from the sea of ne-er-do-wells lurking in the dark recesses of the internet who would seek to do them harm.  It is a common misconception that attorneys are not targets of attack.  The trust is actually the opposite.  Attorneys hold information for and from “high-value” targets.  This can be anything from corporate raiders to domestic law – regardless of the case, there is someone that would benefit from the information on your computer.  So what can you do to protect yourself, and not be a victim?

In this seminar, we will cover:
Points of exposure           Best business practices
            Password protection        Email practices
            Encryption                     Mobile Devices
Dealing with opposing counsel with respect to                       communications

    Pre-registration is required for lunch.
You may register at the door for the seminar only.

On the post-recession domestic landscape it is not uncommon to have a client who cannot afford to comply with a property settlement, support order that was based on pre-recession asset values and income. The bankruptcy code offers these clients real help in dealing with these court ordered payments, including child and spousal support arrearages. Will bankruptcy stop a contempt proceeding? Find out how bankruptcy can provide real help for the divorce client.

    Attorneys and Electronic Evidence
“OK, I’ve got it – NOW what do I do with it?”

    Featuring Randy Zinn, President, MicroSystems

    Tuesday, December 9, 2014
    LorMet Community Federal Credit Union
    12:00 noon – 2:00 p.m.
    2.0 CLE Hours

It is safe to say that the majority of evidence and discovery requests will be coming to you in some electronic format.  When a forensic examiner gives you a forensic image of a hard drive, what will you do?  Sure, you could pay a provider to run a search for you, but sometimes you aren’t sure what you are looking to find.  As well, you may not have an IT department to help you wade through what you are about to see.

The goal of this seminar is to enable the ATTORNEY/PARALEGAL to use tools that are FREE and readily available to load the image, and then to teach the ATTORNEY/PARALEGAL where to look for “low hanging fruit.”  This will not obviate the need for competent examiners, but it WILL give the small law firm the ability to do many of these things themselves.

    This seminar will cover:
        Copy vs. image
        Current forensic methods
        Validation of electronic evidence
        Where data lives
Native file format – what does that mean to me?

    Pre-registration is required for lunch.
You may register at the door for the seminar only.
